Pulpwood sandal sculpture:

Tools and materials:

  • Tang
  • Wire netting
  • Scissor
  • Newsprint
  • Water
  • Starch
  • Waskom
  • Spray paint
  • Baseboard (plywood)

Steps:

  • Prepare tools and materials.
  • Soak the newspaper in water.
  • While waiting for the newspaper to soften, make a wireframe. Here I am using wire netting as the frame. The gauze wire can be cut using scissors.
  • Crumple the soaked newspaper until it becomes like mush. The longer the newspaper is soaked, the softer it will be.
  • Make glue using starch.
  • Boil the starch with enough water. Keep stirring evenly until it becomes gluey. If you don't keep stirring it evenly, the resulting glue will clot.
  • Mix starch glue and pulp. Mix until evenly distributed. Too much starch glue will prevent the statue from drying out quickly. If there is not enough glue, it will make the statue easy to crack.
  • Fill the frame with the mixture.
  • Wait for it to dry. Do not dry it in the sun because if it is dried it will easily crack.
  • Once dry, spray with black spray paint as the base color.
  • After drying, spray with gold paint, so you will see the statue made of copper. We recommend that you spray the gold one is not too full gold because it will reduce the artistic value.
  • I made a techie. Teknik is wooden sandals. My inspiration is the Cinderella story. So I entitled this pulp sculpture "Teklek Cinderella Lost". It is very simple but full of philosophy. Every time you see this sandal, people will ask where the other one is.
  • During the assessment, the lecturer could immediately guess what my work was. "Cinderella?". The results of hard work until the hands hurt all the wires have paid off. Thank you to my friend who helped paint my shoes. Maybe if I paint, I can't get that good grade.
